The Glennie School, Toowoomba

An environment to thrive and grow

Glennie girls enjoy access to outstanding facilities both inside and outside the classroom.

Directly supporting our learning programs, Glennie’s first-class facilities, resources and services provide each girl with the opportunity to explore and develop her unique passions and talents across a diverse range of areas including science, technology, the arts, sports, and hospitality.

Glennie’s dynamic learning environments are well-resourced in both Junior and Senior Years with the technology required to deliver today’s contemporary teaching programs. The School is committed to continually upgrading our educational resources, ensuring Glennie girls thrive through innovative and engaging learning experiences.

Our Junior Years students benefit from having access to a number of the sporting and arts facilities located across Herries Street on the Senior Years campus.

Learning Facilities

The Sue Edwards Science Centre

The Sue Edwards Science Centre is a state-of-the-art purpose-built centre featuring six fully-equipped science laboratories. The centre enables teachers to provide a quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) experience for the girls, allowing more challenging experimental programs and greater use of innovative technology.

Information Technology

Technology is fully integrated into the Glennie curriculum, reflecting real-world experience and providing practical skills to prepare girls for success in an increasingly technology-driven society. From Kindergarten to Year 12, technology is part of everyday life at Glennie, with computer technology integrated into most subject areas.

From Year 5, girls access the School’s notebook computer and Chromebook purchase schemes, providing devices that are optimised to enhance their learning experience. School-supplied devices also enjoy the benefits of insurance cover and ongoing technical support. Glennie also supports a ‘bring your own device’ program should your daughter already have a device upon enrolment.

To facilitate interactive learning and communication, teachers and students utilise a range of cloud-based subscription services.  These light-weight web-browser services are available throughout the entire school via WiFi and at home.  Some of these services are also available to be used where the internet is unavailable.

The School’s intranet connects staff, students and parents, forming our main information and communication portal within the School community and is supported by Glennie’s IT team.  The School is dedicated to evolving with relevant technological changes and supporting the implementation and impact of these changes.

Libraries

Our Junior Years library provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for both learning and recreational reading. Our qualified Teacher Librarian collaborates with classroom teachers and delivers curriculum-based lessons on cybersafety, information literacy and literature.

The Annabelle Rankin Library for our Middle and Senior Years students provides resources and professional support for students engaged in research work, as well as offering a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction literature for general interest reading. Additionally, the Information Services at Glennie offers a virtual collection with 24/7 access to information resources and other ebooks.

Hospitality and Cafe G

Our purpose-built hospitality centre, complete with a fully-functioning café, allows senior students to explore vocational training and provides the essential work experience required to enhance any young job-seekers’ resumé. Café G is a hive of activity most weekday mornings during term time, with all members of the Glennie community welcome to drop in for breakfast or coffee.

Sports Facilities

The School offers an extensive range of sporting facilities, including a synthetic athletics track, indoor heated 25m pool, volleyball, netball and tennis courts, football oval and gymnasium. Our superior health and fitness facilities encourage the development of an active and healthy lifestyle and enable our teachers and specialist coaches to develop elite programs, giving Glennie girls a greater competitive edge.

The Clive Berghofer Sports Centre at The Glennie School is a new state of the art three court indoor centre, officially opened in May 2019. Adjoining our existing aquatic facility, The Clive Berghofer Sports Centre complements our first-class outdoor sporting facilities to cater for every girl’s sporting ambitions – whether they enjoy sport recreationally or compete at an elite level.

Arts Facilities

Glennie strives to open the creative mind, encouraging and showcasing the extraordinary artistic talents of the girls in well-resourced specialist classrooms for music, dance, drama, and visual arts.  Girls studying extra-curricular music can take advantage of our extensive instrument hire program.

Technology plays a major role in our Arts programs with recording studios and video mixing programs, as well as a full theatre equipped with a backdrop projector and a digital lighting system.  Use of this equipment is embedded in the Arts curriculum as well as providing further opportunities for girls to extend their special interests in performance and production.

Boarding Facilities

Each of Glennie’s three boarding houses is a comfortable and cozy ‘home away from home’ designed to provide flexible living areas, privacy and security for our boarding students. All girls enjoy their own private space where they are free to decorate to make it feel just like home. Spacious shared kitchens, living and recreation areas provide a place for the girls to come together and enjoy each other’s company as a boarding family.

Glennie boarding is so much more than just a room for a girl to sleep in. Boarders have the opportunity to take advantage of the many resources our beautiful school has to offer. In the summer months, girls can swim at the Glennie Aquatics Centre. They can take a jog around the tartan track, go to the gym or shoot hoops with friends in the Sports Centre. There is always something to do at Glennie.

In addition to her room, the boarding house has a number of living and lounge areas with televisions, pool tables and games girls can explore. Boarders also have access to house kitchens, where they can cook and bake or make much-needed snacks.

Outside of the gates, the city of Toowoomba provides a number of attractions such as cinemas, shopping and even sleep-overs with friends.

Glennie One Stop Shop (GOSS)

The Glennie One Stop Shop (GOSS) is the place to buy uniforms and school supplies, along with offering a textbook hire service. Boarders don’t need to leave the campus to buy gifts, toiletries and snacks, parents can simply set up a GOSS account for their girls to access when needed. GOSS is operated by the Glennie Parents and Friends’ Association and all trading funds are reinvested at Glennie.
